Parents and Chess Association of Malawi (CHESSAM) officials have defied the cold weather on Saturday morning, December 14, 2019, to see off the young chess guns at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) in Lilongwe. 

The Youth chess players are scheduled to participate at the week-long Africa Youth Chess Championship (AYCC) in Windhoek, Namibia.
The four players left Platinum Suite Hotel at Area 12, roughly 05:00 CAT. to catch a Malawian Airline ET 021 ,three hours later. They will be joined by fifth teammate Priyasha Santosh who arrived yesterday in Windhoek.



CHESSAM has partnered with Parents and Kalibu Academy to send 5 young chess players  to the continental tournament. The parents have supported air  ticket costs and other expenses for the kids while Kalibu has contibuted registration fees for 3 of Kalibu players and also paid logistics for one patron from Kalibu.
Chessam has sponsored logistical arrangements for Mr Vitumbiko Ndovie to accompany the kids as Chessam  official. 

The five member team is comprised of: Kezzie Msukwa Jnr. (M) (Under 12, Boys category), from Wongani primary school, Terrynce Malema (F) (Under 12, Girls category, from Kalibu Academy), Lungile Mendulo (M) (Under 14, Boys category), from Kalibu Academy, Priyansha Santosh (F) (Under 14 Girls, from Bishop Mackenzie International School) and Pokera Chilikumtima (M) (Under 16, Boys category), from Kalibu Academy.

This tournament comes hot on the heels of U16 National team' participation two weeks ago @ Zone 4.5 in Teyateyaneng, Lesotho, where they finished fourth.
One of the parents, Thokozani Mendulo commended Chessam for exposing the kids to international tournaments.
Chessam President Susan Namangale who was present at KIA reiterated the goal of promoting Chess at grassroot level.
She lauded Platinum Suite Hotel for offering accomodation to the team, after they also hosted U16 Team, last month
