Malawi Junior Chess Team flies out through Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) on Wednesday December 5,  2018, to compete at the African Schools Individual Chess Championships slated for Limpopo, SouthAfrica. The five players who have made the cut, are set to jostle for honours in different age group categories, namely: Lakshita Dutt (Under 11 Girls), Priyasha Shriyan (Under 13 Girls), Janet Basikolo (Under 15 Girls), Dakshesh Dutt (Under 13 Boys), and Blessings Kamanga (Under 17 Boys)

They are travelling under the tutelage of Chess Association of Malawi (CHESSAM) official, Alfred Chimthere, who is the Publicity Secretary of the Association. The Tournament is set to commence on Thursday, December 6, and wind up on Wednesday, December 12, 2018. It will be played in accordance with FIDE (World Chess Federation) regulations as a 9 round Swiss System Tournament. The time control will be 90 minutes for the game for each player, with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from move 1. However, the players scooping the first three positions in each age group category will be awarded Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medals respectively.

The winners will also be awarded personal rights to participate in the 2019 World Schools Individual Chess Championships. Chess SouthAfrica (CHESSA) is hosting it under the auspices of African Chess Confederation.(ACC)
